Meet Our School Leaders

Welcome from Principal Martha Lorena Hernandez
Welcome! My name is Martha Lorena Hernandez, and I am honored to serve as the proud principal of Larry C. Kennedy School. With 21 years of service in the Creighton School District, this role is both a personal milestone and a full-circle moment in my journey as an educator. I began my career just down the road at William T. Machan School, where I was known to my students as “La maestra Mrs. Hernandez.”
Now, I’m incredibly proud to continue in this new role, continuing my commitment to serving the Creighton community with heart, purpose, and a deep belief in the brilliance of every child.
Throughout my career in Creighton, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and most recently as a district coordinator supporting Gifted Education, and Innovation in the Arts and Sciences. Across each of these roles, my focus has remained the same: building systems that center student voices, nurture curiosity, elevate equity, and celebrate culture and community.
Returning to LCK, where learning is connected to leadership, sustainability, and outdoor exploration, feels like coming home. Our school is guided by a powerful vision:
“Empowering every student to grow as a leader, care for the environment, and shape a brighter, more sustainable future.”
This vision speaks to my heart as an educator and as a mother. I believe schools should be joyful, inclusive spaces where students are challenged, celebrated, and deeply known. Whether we’re composting in the garden, designing real-world solutions, or lifting up cultural pride, everything we do at LCK is designed to help our children grow as confident, compassionate leaders.
As your principal, my promise is to lead with transparency, empathy, and collaboration. I’m excited to learn from you, work alongside you, and continue to grow a vibrant school community where every child can thrive.
Here are a couple of important upcoming dates:
- Meet the Teacher Night: August 1st, 4:00–6:00 p.m.
- First Day of School: August 4th, 7:25-2:40 p.m
We can’t wait to welcome our Coyotes back to campus!
With heart and gratitude,
Martha L. Hernandez

Hi Kennedy Families,
I’m excited to continue in my role as Assistant Principal at Larry C. Kennedy School! Being part of this community has been such a joy, and I’m looking forward to another great year of learning and growing together.
Before stepping into administration, I taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades and later served as an instructional coach and Title I facilitator here in the Creighton School District. In those roles, I had the opportunity to support teachers in planning instruction, analyzing data, and implementing strategies to meet the diverse needs of students. That work deepened my commitment to equity and student success—and it continues to shape how I lead today.
At Kennedy, we believe in creating a school where every student feels safe, valued, and inspired to do their best. Our students truly shine when they show what it means to be Safe, Hardworking, Open-minded, Welcoming Leaders—and I’m proud to help them grow in those ways.
As we head into this new school year, my promise is to lead with consistency, kindness, and high expectations. I’m committed to supporting our students and staff every step of the way and to building strong partnerships with families. Together, we’ll continue to make Kennedy a place where students are not only challenged academically, but also encouraged to grow into confident, compassionate leaders.
Let’s make it a fantastic year, Coyotes—I can’t wait to see all the great things we’ll accomplish together!
All the best,
Evan Johnson
